Beyond the Field: An Inside Look at Raiya Rumo’s Soccer Career with Thompson Rivers University

Author: Makenna Pratt

In an interview with Raiya Rumo, Thompson Rivers University’s very own Canada West All-Star of the 2024 season, Raiya looks back on the trials and tribulations of her soccer career with the TRU Wolfpack. Reflecting on her early days pre-TRU, she reminisces on when her coach reached out to fly her out to Kamloops, for a quick introduction of the city, in order to see if signing with the Wolfpack was of any interest to her. As she looks back more recently, Raiya mentions her favorite memory with Thompson Rivers was winning against Trinity Western this past season, as the women’s soccer team had never done that in the history of the program. She also states in the feature podcast that school is always the first priority (as much as you may want to get some extra touches on the field in) and highlights the importance of keeping an organized calendar. She then briefly touches on what it means to be a part of the team. Raiya goes on to state that; “You’ll have bad coaches, you’ll have some bad teammates that will always try and bring you down, but being confident in yourself and knowing you got there for a reason and that your a great player will honestly help you excel.” Check out the podcast below to see what this prodigy has planned for the future!
